About the Southern Circuit

  • The vast Selous Game Reserve, where you can take a boat safari on the great Rufiji River or walk with a Ranger among Sable Antelope & Greater Kudu.
  • Ruaha National Park and its lifeblood, the Great Ruaha River. Large packs of

      African wild dogs are frequently seen in this park.

  • Mikumi National Park, easiest of access of Tanzania’s extraordinary southern parks with their large and diverse ecosystems.
  • Udzungwa Mountains National Park, with its newly-discovered Sanje Mangabey and rare plant species is a paradise for hikers and ornithologists alike.
  • Saadani National Park – your beach to bush experience. This park literally extends onto the beach and is the only place where you can see lion and elephant on the ocean shore.
 
Other places to visit

Gombe Stream National Park, made famous by Jane Goodall and her famous studies of Gombe’s chimpanzees.  Other places where chimpanzee trekking is possible are Mahale Mountains National Park and Rubondo Island.

On the Swahili Coast, Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo are full of historical interest, with relics and ruins dating back to the slave trade and the great explorers, Livingstone and Stanley, Speke and Burke.
